Consumables
Consumables are the labels, ribbons and paper that label, barcode and receipt printers use. Techcon Solution supplies them in Hong Kong, matched to your printers, including linerless labels with no backing paper to throw away. Retail, apparel and other businesses use labels for prices, product information, serial numbers and dates, and for inventory, loss prevention, asset tracking, branding and promotion.
Linerless labels
What they are
Labels with no backing paper (liner). Like a roll of tape, each label has a silicone release coating on top, so it peels cleanly off the label underneath (Zebra).
Why switch
What Zebra states for its ZeroLiner linerless labels (Zebra):
- Up to 50% more labels per roll, so fewer roll changes
- No liner to peel or dispose of, and no slip hazard from liner piles under printers
- Labels are fully recyclable in the cardboard waste stream
- Variable label length: print only what you need
- 40% less shipping weight, which helps reduce CO2 emissions
Where they are used
Food and beverage, pharmaceutical labelling, retail and parcel delivery (Zebra). Zebra’s entry-grade ZeroLiner 1100D is made for shipping and logistics.
Printers and scales that take them
Linerless labels need a linerless-ready printer; a regular thermal printer cannot take them (Zebra). In our range:
- Zebra mobile: ZQ300 Plus, ZQ600 Plus and the linerless versions of the ZQ511 / ZQ521
- Zebra industrial: the linerless ZT411, or a field-installable linerless upgrade kit for existing ZT411 printers (Zebra ZT400 series datasheet)
- Honeywell: PC45t desktop, and RP2f mobile with the linerless option (PC45t datasheet, RP2f datasheet)
- Aclas label scales: LS5RX and iS5X print label, linerless label or receipt paper from one printer module (Aclas LS5RX, Aclas iS5X)

Labels we supply
Labels and ribbons designed for thermal transfer printing give high-quality, reliable and consistent print results.
Thermal transfer labels
Work with thermal transfer printers to print barcodes, QR codes, RFID and more.
Laser labels
Premium white face stock that resists high temperatures, made for high-speed, high-volume laser printers and copiers.
Hand labeler labels
Many shapes, sizes and colours, with custom pre-print options, for hand labelers.
Linerless labels
No backing paper or liner, which reduces waste and carbon emissions.
Destructible paper labels
Tamper-evident security labels that break into small pieces when someone tries to remove them; used for warranty seals, asset tracking, and product authenticity and quality.
Pre-printed labels
Fixed information such as logos, contact details or return addresses, for consistent branding across products and shipping materials.
Jewelry labels and tags
For pricing, identification and branding in the jewelry industry, in many forms, materials and designs.
Which ribbon do you need?
In thermal transfer printing, the print head heats the ribbon and its colour layer melts onto the label. The right ribbon depends on the application and the label material.
| Ribbon | Prints on | Durability |
|---|---|---|
| Wax | Paper and matte surfaces | The most economical option. Fine for short-term use, but may not withstand oils or chemicals |
| Wax/resin | Coated papers and some synthetic materials | Better durability and image quality than wax; resists smudging and moisture |
| Resin | Synthetic materials such as polyester and polypropylene | The most robust: resists abrasion, moisture, solvents and extreme temperatures, for long-lasting labels in harsh environments |
Thermal receipt paper
Rolls
Wound on a cardboard core, in widths to suit common receipt printers.
Sheets
For wider, letter-size printers.
Colours
White, other colours, or even transparent.
Adhesive
Some thermal paper has a stick-and-peel backing, for use as labels.
Buying guides and articles
- How Do You Choose Barcode Labels and Ribbons? Thermal Transfer vs Direct Thermal MediaMatch the media to how long the label must last. Direct thermal labels need no ribbon and suit short-life jobs such as shipping labels and receipts. Thermal transfer labels use a ribbon and last longer: wax for paper, wax/resin for tougher paper and matte synthetic labels, resin for synthetic labels in harsh conditions.
- Which Barcode Printer Do You Need? Desktop vs Industrial vs Mobile, and Thermal Transfer vs Direct ThermalPick the printer class by volume and location: desktop for low to medium volumes at a counter or office, industrial for high-volume work in harsh settings, and mobile for printing on the shop floor or at a customer's door. Then choose direct thermal for short-life labels and thermal transfer for durable ones.
- Which Smart Weighing Scale Does a Fresh-Food Shop Need? Label Printing Scales ExplainedFresh-food counters that sell by weight need a label printing scale: it weighs the item, calculates the price from a stored product list, and prints a barcode label that the checkout scans. Choose by product count, label type, network link to your POS, and whether you also need platform or floor scales in the back room.
